Kite Hill Jalapeño Cream Cheese

I have been vegan for quite some time, but still enjoy bagels and cream cheese for breakfast. I try not to eat it every day, but I will admit that it makes a regular appearance on the breakfast table. Some mornings I switch it up for oatmeal (or a half of an English Muffin), to be a little healthy.  Kite Hill has always been a delicious brand, but it is a bit too expensive to have every week. Overall Grade: A

Pros:

  • It is vegan cream cheese!!
  • It has a delicious creamy flavor with a hint of spice.
  • It is mildly spicy. I would prefer it a bit spicier, but it is good for most taste buds.
  • The package lists less than 10 ingredients!
  • It is almond based, unlike other popular cream cheese alternatives made of soy.
  • It is a cultured cheese product and therefore has a more in-depth flavor. Kite Hill cream cheeses are the closest flavor to dairy cream cheese that I have tried.
  • It is gluten free and soy free.

Cons:

  • The cream cheese is quite pricey. I have seen it for about $7 a tub. At this price, it will only make an appearance on my table for special occasions.
  • I can only find it in health food stores. I hope to see it in more mainstream grocery stores.

Trader Joe’s Bollywood Popcorn, MoFo Day 3

This past summer, Trader Joe’s launched a new flavored popcorn. In my opinion the world can’t have enough vegan, flavored popcorns.  I was reading TJ’s product description and they say:  “You might not know you’ve been craving Indian-spiced popcorn, but once you taste Trader Joe’s Bollywood Popcorn, you’ll wonder how you managed to make it this far without it.”  I wholeheartedly agree.  This has quickly become one of my favorite snacks.

Pros:

  • It’s like eating a hearty Indian dinner and a movie snack all at once.
  • It’s spicy.
  • It’s perfectly crunchy.
  • It smells really good.
  • It’s only $1.99 (at least in NC)
  • The spice haters leave more for me.

Cons:

  • When you tell someone who is hesitant of spice that it’s spicy, they won’t believe you because it looks so cheesy.  They will find out you are telling the truth and possibly knock you down on the way to the water.

 

 

 

 

Saucy Buffalo Qrunch For Your Buns

There is a whole world of veggie burgers out there. Even being gluten free, I have so many burger options. I actually get to choose what I like! I’m not a big fan of burgers that taste like a meat substitute, I like ones that have veggies and/or grains and they are visible. I think it is because I want to know I’m eating a veggie burger. I don’t want that thought “OH NO! Is this a real burger?” thought when I’m eating it.

If you are someone who wants a veggie burger that tastes just like a burger made of beef, then this might not be your burger. The Qrunch burgers are made mostly of quinoa, millet and amaranth and pack a crunch if cooked on a pan or in the oven. If made in the microwave, they don’t get a chance to get crispy. I am a fan of all of the Qrunch burgers that I’ve tried. Especially this Saucy Buffalo one. It wasn’t spicy enough for me and I didn’t get a lot of the Buffalo flavor come through, but I still really liked the taste. I enjoyed this burger with traditional toppings of vegan mayo, ketchup, mustard, pickles, tomato and lettuce. If you want to amp up the heat, I recommend a spicy BBQ sauce or a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce.
